Today is Human Rights Day. This year's theme is Recover Better - Stand Up for Human Rights and focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery efforts.

Today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day to recognize the 2,403 people killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The USS Arizona & USS Utah were destroyed in the attack. The USS Shaw (pictured) was hit with 3 bombs, but salvaged, repaired, & returned to combat in Aug. 1942.

It's National Handwashing Awareness Week. The CDC has a Life is Better with Clean Hands campaign encouraging adult to make handwashing part of their everyday life, along with encouraging parents to wash their hands to set a good example for their kids.


The Arkansas Department of Education is partnering with Nettleton STEAM School in Jonesboro to offer Arkansas students a unique opportunity to witness a conversation with astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Learn more about the event here:

It's National Handwashing Awareness Week. The CDC encourages the use of hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available. When using hand sanitizer, apply the gel product and rub hands together covering hands and fingers until dry. This should take around 20 seconds.

Wet hands w/ clean, running water (warm or cold)
Apply soap
Scrub front & back of hands, between fingers, & under nails for 20 sec
Rinse hands w/ clean, running water
Dry hands using a clean towel


November is Native American Heritage Month. Programs across the country work tirelessly to preserve the stories and heritage of the original inhabitants of the land. But some tribes are keeping traditions alive, including American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians.


Today is World AIDS Day. Today we unite in the fight against HIV. World AIDS Day was founded in 1988 and was the first ever global health day.


Dr. Monica Meadows is a Gifted & Talented Facilitator at College Station & Daisy Bates elementaries. She is helping other educators reach students from low-income homes by contributing to a new book, "Unlocking Potential."

Sherwood Elementary has quarantined an increasing number of staff who have been identified as probable close contacts. In order to ensure all students and staff remain healthy and safe, Sherwood Elementary will pivot to virtual instruction for all students through Friday, December 4. Students will return to normal instructional platforms on Monday, December 7. All teachers will communicate with students through Schoology. If you would like a 5-day meal box, please call 501-234-5756 on Monday, November 30 between 8am -10am to request. The meal boxes will be available for pick up on Monday between 11am - 1pm.
