This is just a friendly reminder that Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020 from 12:00-6:00 p.m. Your child should be bringing home paperwork this week for you to schedule a conference time. February is Black History Month. Vice Admiral Edward Moore Jr. was the highest ranking African American in the Navy at the time of his retirement. Moore's family moved to Little Rock while he was in high school. He was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 1999.
School counselors help students in more ways than you realize. This week we celebrate them and the tremendous impact they have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career as a part of National School Counseling Week.
February is American Heart Month. Help raise awareness for heart disease by participating in "Wear Red Day" this Friday (Feb. 7). Together we are empowering women to beat heart disease and stroke, giving them more time to do amazing things.

February is Black History Month. John Harold Johnson built Johnson Publishing Company, a publishing empire that launched Ebony and Jet magazines. He was born in Arkansas City and inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 1993.

This is just a friendly reminder that we are a uniform school and students should be in uniforms daily. To be in compliance with the PCSSD uniform code, students should be in a sold color polo top and khaki, blue, or black bottoms. As we start off the year with our Mission Possible Reset, we ask that children are in uniform daily. Thank you for your assistance.

February is Black History Month. Maya Angelou is a renowned bestselling author, poet, actor and performer. She lived in Stamps, AR for ten years with her grandmothers. She was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 1993.
In honor of Black History Month, every day in February we'll recognize a great leader in African American history. We'll highlight someone new each morning.
Though school board appreciation month is ending, we're always thankful for the work of our school board members. Your dedication and hard work for our students is evident every day! THANK YOU!

Also, The Orange Ladies Society and the Daisy Bates Gentlemen's Club are sponsoring FRIENDSHIP BALL on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14th. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from any Orange Lady, Gentlemen's Club member or the front office. Tickets are $6 at the door. Parents will be admitted free of charge and must accompany any Pre-K through 1st-grade student. Come enjoy a wonderful evening with your child on Valentine's Night!
Eli Keller has two kids who both attend PCSSD schools. His fiancée, Mary, has 3 kids. When he's not chasing around the kids, Eli volunteers for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas.

First, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Wednesday, January, 29, 2020. Students can dress up as a 100 year old. Also, please send $1.00 to help cover cost of fun activities planned. Alicia Gillen, board secretary, has 3 children - Shayla Dixon 22, Nicole Gillen 13, Julia Gillen 12. She also has a dog named Maggie who is 15. In her spare time, she enjoys antiquing, traveling and cooking.
Mills High School invites all in the Mills Feeder to a "Night of Edutainment" tonight (Tuesday, January 21) at 6pm. There will be workshops for both students and parents. #pcssdproud #equityandexcellence

January 20, 2020 is Pediatric Vision Day; this is an opportunity to have your child's eyes examined and receive glasses, if needed, free of charge.
The ROOTS non-profit has partnered with the Arkansas Department of Education Title 1 office, Arkansas Children's Hospital, and the UAMS Jones Eye Institute to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day (1/20/20) an opportunity for children across the state to receive free comprehensive eye exams and glasses at no cost.
